My take on the scene where they are talking about who they like. I definitely feel like it's a Trans experience, not necessarily universal though. But for me personally and some other trans people I know (masc and femme, I'm masc) it's something that experienced in being trans. It's really hard to try to feel comfortable when it comes to sexual/romantic intimacy when you have dysphoria. Which I think really hits when Owen mentions the hole in the chest thing. Like I can't think about being comfortable in intimacy when my mind is actively in hell fire over my body. Especially after realizing that I am trans and choosing to transition, I am so much more comfortable with the thoughts of intimacy. It's not this giant hole/uncomfortable hurdle. It's now something that I can enjoy and experience because I'm no longer in the prison that I was in.

I agree.....society and farming IS allowing -EXTREMLEY- -dumb stupid- people to breed and see doctors and LIve longer....when what really needs to happen ..is these people be required to pass a test and have an iq certification permit in order to breed...other wise it should be a crime against humanity for some of these people to reproduce. I like to view I Saw The TV Glow as the story of soneone who didnt escape the matrix. Obviously theyre two very different films but i couldnt shake this feeling that this is what wouldve happened if you didnt take either pill and just retreated back into the safety of the programming even while people who have left are begging you to join them. Its the other side of the trans allegory of the matrix. Some of us dont get out, sone of us don't bury ourselves or take the pill to emerge as our true selves.

I absolutely adore this film, and would love my friends to watch this, but I do always have to remind them that they should watch this movie on a No-DnD day (No Dysphoria & Dissociation). Also one scene that stuck with me so much, alongside the apologizing motif was the scene where Owen tells her schoolmate's mom that she should tell about her lies to her dad, and that she needs to be grounded. That behaviour felt very familiar to me as a person with late diagnosed OCD, who always thought anything to do with rulebreaking, especially if it was a rulebreaking i had done, I should be made apologize for or grounded. I can only thank the stars that I never developed a need to apologize for my existance as a trans person, but in hind sight, the risk was very much there.

As a person that at the moment is in homeschooling specifically online school i can understand that feeling of disconnected from other people my age. Feeling as if they all have something that connects them but not me feeling as if no matter what i do i will be a weird enigma to others. And i feel that there's a song i love with the deepest parts of my heart for a very bittersweet reason the song is called YKWIM by yot club And it genuinely changed my forever i humm the song and sing it all the time for 2 reasons not only because it's catchy and sounds great but also because of the relateability. The lyrics are in short. Hey it's not like you ever tried to stay sometimes it feels like im in your way hey You Know What I Mean i feel like i care to much when im all alone oh no she said that i care to much when no one's at home for me. The songs about the feeling of anxiety and fear of being left behind or being lonely when everyone else is at a fare The feeling of no longer being worthy of others attention love and or care. I hope the song was a good recommendation and i hope these words of understanding of such feelings make some of the fellow viewers of your channel feel less alone in this vas world of 8 billion have a good day. 👍

As far as the “burry yourself alive” part Before my egg cracked for a year depression was completely debilitating and I nearly unalived myself about it 3 weeks after that night my egg fully cracked. I think the idea of “burying yourself alive” is speaking on the ego death trans people have before it all finally reaches the surface. For a year I felt I was dying a very slow death and once it hit the breaking point only then did my ego I wouldn’t say completely die but fragmented from what no longer served it enough for my new conscious awareness of being trans was able to begin filling the gaps. That being said, part of the trans experience if you are unaware of even being trans is ego death

Although one thing about Owen not changing versus Tara we have to acknowledge the huge elephant in the room (this coming from a trans F) being TRANS F today and even back then is arguably much much harder to confront than being lesbian with a more masculine edge. Honestly being trans f is like the lgbt experience on expert mode. Think about it, for the lesbian experience it’s dating who you want openly and expressing more masculine outfits. For trans f it’s 1. starting hrt 2. Accepting the medication will make you infertile so no going back 3. Having to legally change all your documentation 4. Not being able to hide your mental battle with gender dysphoria 5. Automatically being apart of another lgbt identity lesbian or gay depending on who you end up being attracted to 6. Having to save for potential surgeries like facial feminization, breast, or genital reassignment surgery. 7. Having to constantly take care of your health because if the medication compromises it there goes you hrt treatment that will become your lifeline 8. Accepting that even if you do all of the above you may still never pass and be just another trans person that society misgenders and sees as a man in a dress. So really put into perspective how VASTLY different the two battles they are fighting and the opponent that stands before them Yes it’s very frustrating seeing the character not take steps towards being authentic but unless you have had the trans experience you have no idea how big of monster it becomes. Sexual orientation is something that is not always fully out on display gender identity in its nature always is and becomes everyone’s business whether we want it to be or not

I'm trans but I related to the horror of the movie in a different way, it felt like the time I was struggling with horrid bipolar depression and didn't understand what was happening.

What I took away from the arcade that Owen works in after the theatre is that the neon lights, and dark shadows, and the references to characters/plot from the Pink Opaque was (aside from the narrative significance about Owen finally realizing that she’s suffocating) a nod to trying to recapture/recreate what was fun, magical, good about the past, but because it’s impossible to actually recreate the past (especially through the lens of nostalgia), the result is two dimensional and feels soulless. The arcade technically has all the key ingredients (the colours, the lighting, the props, etc) but because it’s not real, it’s an attempt to synthesize reality, it ends up evoking an almost uncanny valley feeling that’s only heightened by everyone just stopping like npcs when Owen starts screaming. Also, hearing her wheezing in the last scene of the movie made me realize that yes, her difficulty breathing is accelerating because she’s suffocating in real life, in the grave. But also, her asthma was introduced pretty pointedly near the very beginning by her mother maybe as another distraction to keep her from suspecting that what she’s experiencing might not be reality. Notice that we never hear her wheeze or see her use her inhaler while she’s being exposed to relief and an alternate path by Maddie, but once Owen dives head first into denial (and she chooses not to dig herself up, prolonging her burial), her asthma is shown to get increasingly worse, until she’s unable to breathe and starts screaming because a) she’s choking on luna juice and dirt, and b) she’s suffocating on the lie she’s been trying to protect herself with

Hey so I listened to the song "The Same" and I have never in my entire life listened to a song that I actually related to before on such a deep and aggressive level before. This is not a compliment this is a vent of self actualization. Like I had a verbal and guttural reaction when I saw the lyrics in this video and then paused immediately to listen to it in its entirety. Something is wrong with me. I watched it at an early free screening at my school with my friends (both cishet men altho they’re men of color) and at the end of the movie after I dried my tears and swallowed the huge lump in my throat while we were still reeling from the abruptness they were both like “hmmmm” and I was like “yeah I mean obviously Owen was a trans girl” and they were both like “wait what?!?!?! Rly??? Wdym????” And I was like oh wow is it possible to Not see it….. like if it was any less of an allegory they would be slapping u in the face yelling SHES TRANS BITCH but I was shocked and they were shocked but they accepted it after I explained to them…..but then I also heard a bunch of the smelly ass film major dudes hanging around after the screening also all being like “wow that sucked omfg I didn’t get it at all it was so trash” anyway I haven’t watched this video yet but that experience was so bizarre (I am a non-binary lesbian) I think abt it every time I talk abt the movie

i grew up in the bible belt as a lesbian and my best friend is trans. i ran away to colorado when i turned 18 and begged my best friend to go w me but they stayed. i lived my authentic life while they shoved themself more and more into the closet in order to keep their dream job. idk if anyone will read this comment but this movie hit so so close to home in a way i haven’t seen anyone talk about. i AM maddy, my best friend IS owen. i have my heart while they’re slowly suffocating in silence

you know when I was watching this movie the thing I walked away with is almost that it was a bit heavy handed in the trans allegory. I was like "I feel almost like the trans allegory was jackhammered in" then I saw the fucking reviews and now I was like WTF DOES ANYONE HAVE MEDIA LITERACY ANYMORE.

I felt a massive endless pit in my stomach grow as i learned about some of these fantasies and stories, some of them legitimately just day "grape is hot" it's so sickening🫤

I watched this movie with my trans partner. She recommended it, I barely knew anything about it, but was intrigued by the vibe. I left the move crying. I'm not trans myself but as a closeted lesbian for many years, similar to Maddy, I felt so much or her pain, even Owen's too at some points, especially the party scene at the end. When Maddy and her friend, at the beginning of the movie, are talking about boys and Maddy really *struggles* to find one she's interested in, I felt that in my gut, the same when she later revealed her friend had outed her. This movie is so steeped in queerness, the soundtrack is beautiful and haunting. If you haven't seen it, please please watch it, its so worth it.

I’m trans myself and watching this movie just did something for me. I’m lucky enough to have family who accepts me for who I am and my partner as well. But the absolute horror of not being able to be you and be trapped by yourself is so terrifying. When Owen was screaming I want to go home that killed me.
